What is Dragon Ball GT Rewritten?
Dragon Ball GT Rewritten, as the name suggests, is an alternate version of the Dragon Ball GT series, an anime produced by Toei Animation in 1996. It continues the iconic manga created by Akira Toriyama but modifies certain ideas from the Toei team and even introduces new, original concepts. The author of Rewritten is a passionate fan of the Dragon Ball universe - The Banana Doc.- Unlike other fan productions, the Rewritten series isn't a fan manga or any animated medium. It's a story written in the form of a script enriched with character thoughts and stage directions to help readers better envision the presented world. The entire Rewritten series is available completely for free on this website. Each Chapter is accompanied by illustrations created by a close companion of The Banana Doc - ERAZEE. These mainly include character designs and covers for individual chapters, but the series is continuously updated with illustrations reminiscent of manga panels. You will be able to see all the drawings by visiting the "Galleries" section once it will be opened.
What is the "Rewritten project"?
- We use the term "Rewritten project" to encompass everything related to The Banana Doc's series. This includes the Chapters themselves, the official website, the entire fan community, all FWDB channel videos dedicated to GT Rewritten, or even illustrations created for the series.
Who is behind the project?
- Certainly, the author himself, BanDoc, and his associate, ERAZEE. They run a joint YouTube channel called FWDB (Dragon Ball Liberation Front in Polish), so their duo will be referred to as such.
Where did the idea for Rewritten come from?
- According to the creator***, he couldn't help but feel that GT had extraordinary potential. So he decided to capitalize on it by creating his own version.
What is the purpose of Rewritten and who is it for?
- To begin with, this series is both for you, the Dragon Ball fans, and us. Right from the start, we planned to share Rewritten with the world because we believe that fans deserve more than what they currently receive from official sources***.
If, while reading this question, you were wondering what specific demographic group our series is aimed at, the answer is: "The same as Dragon Ball". The brutality should not be far from what the original manga or Super presents us with.
Rewritten is also a way for us to fulfill ourselves artistically. We wanted to polish every detail, which is why we waited so long to publish it.
What about the financial aspect?
Given that Dragon Ball isn't in the public domain, creating Rewritten means we're aware that our earnings from this work will either be zero or very minimal. However, we are committed to sharing this story with you, and that's why we hope to at least sustain the project. Unfortunately, things like a website do incur costs, so your support will be essential.
Why this particular format?
- The written form is indeed an unusual choice for a series like Dragon Ball, which is typically associated with explosive battles and a focus on the visual aspect. However, we believe that the best moments in Dragon Ball are not just stylish but also carry a message. Rewritten's format will emphasize dialogue, character thoughts, and motivations, allowing The Banana Doc to better convey his intentions to the reader.
- But don't think that the series will lack battles! Rather, Rewritten will portray them in a more strategic manner. This is something modern Dragon Ball has slightly moved away from. Additionally, over time, these battles will be complemented by ERAZEE's illustrations.
- It's true that we wouldn't be able to carry out Rewritten in any other form than its current one. BanDoc excels in writing, while ERAZEE is skilled in drawing. In creating the project, the division of tasks is more or less equal. On the other hand, creating a fan manga or animation is incredibly time-consuming, making it impossible to shift that responsibility solely to ERAZEE due to an unequal division of work. We already feel overwhelmed and compensate with enthusiasm, so complicating our work further doesn't seem like the best idea. We are staying within our competencies. The current Rewritten is the best opportunity for two individuals with very limited time to create an entire world.
What are your long-term plans related to Rewritten?
- It's less of a plan and more of a dream for FWDB to have our series receive something akin to a "podcast adaptation," with voice actors and some illustrations. Who knows, maybe someday we'll make it happen...
A bit more about the "canon"...
- The Rewritten series has a straightforward canon (seriously, we swear). It includes the Dragon Ball manga (1984-1995) and, in essence, also Dr. Slump (1980-1984). However, it's important to note that Slump is only relevant due to the Red Ribbon Army Saga, where characters from Penguin Village appear. Events from Dr. Slump won't affect Rewritten in any way, so there's no need to familiarize yourself with it before reading the series.
- Furthermore, Rewritten acknowledges any information from the so-called "Assemblies" as canon. Assemblies are discussions, long or short, between Bananowy Doktor and ERAZEE about Rewritten or the Dragon Ball manga. You can find all the information established in the Assemblies on this website under the "Project" tab in the article titled "Assemblies" once it will be opened.
- Speaking of canon, we warmly invite you to check out FWDB's video on this very subject. :)
What is the "official website"?
- The official Rewritten website is the one you're currently on. It contains all the GT Rewritten chapters organized with navigation and several articles related to the series' canon. This website will be the primary platform where all significant information will appear first. It was created by ERAZEE.
What is fandom / wiki?
- It's a separate website where an encyclopedia-like resource can be easily maintained. In this context, when we talk about the Fandom, we specifically refer to the GT Rewritten Fandom dedicated to the entire project. This Fandom is considered "official" by us because it was founded by The Banana Doc and is frequently edited by both him and ERAZEE. Most pages are open for editing by any logged-in user, so if you feel there's valuable information to add, you're warmly encouraged to do so! Just remember to familiarize yourself with the guidelines and page construction guides first!
- This Wikia contains all the essential information about the series, serving as a sort of supplement to Rewritten. The project's website you're currently viewing often includes links that redirect you to gt-rewritten.fandom.com.
- Currently the Fandom contains only articles in Polish. However there are built-in features that allow for easy creation of the articles in different languages.
Spoilers
- Integral to experiencing any series are, of course, spoilers, and it's no different here. On the Fandom page, everything related to GT Rewritten is documented, which means there will also be sections containing information about later events in the series. While we try to use various templates to not spoil the fun for readers, we recommend avoiding clicking on links leading to the Fandom while reading the Chapters, as reading articles on that site might potentially ruin your fun of experiencing the series.
- It is also worth mentioning that there is an active script on our Fandom website that allows you to preview links. This means that we do not recommend even hovering over them without thinking first.
- For more information on what we consider spoilers in our community and how to avoid them, you can find details in this article.
I found an error. How do I report it?
- If you find any errors on our website or within the Chapters (such as punctuation, typos, loading issues, content misplacements, bad translation etc.), please report them in the comments section of the respective page and/or to our official email.
We would appreciate your help in finding any errors!
Are you planning any collaborations?
- We don't rule out such a possibility.
- We'd also gladly consider exceptionally outstanding fan works that could enrich the Chapters (e.g. fan art, animations, music and others), of course, with the consent of their creators.
Conclusion
After familiarizing yourself with the contents of Rewritten, we invite you to a civilized discourse.
